We’ve all tried to put the pandemic behind us, one way or another. This collection has everything I recorded since Genuine in 2021, including the three singles Nobody Wins, Thirty-Three and Clear Day. It’s meant to clear the decks for the next project.
I was really stuck in 2025, feeling I’d never finish Back a Step. It took a certain song, Fly Farther, to break the ice. Maybe it was the energy around Anna Rose’s wedding that got me going again – anyway, I’m certainly glad it happened.
As usual, there’s no theme and no genre. Maybe there’s a sound – I hope so. It’s good to hear the singles in the flow of the record, even though I know people don’t listen to music that way these days.
