I was running along Delaware Avenue in the summer when I stepped on a pile of brand new syringes spilling out of a box. I thought back to my time on Avenue A in the ’80s, when you really had to watch your step to avoid used needles, and the park was dicey. Then I thought about Kensington.
When I passed the spot again later that morning, the needles were gone.
I live in a great city, but I’ll always live near Liberty Corner. I’m a citizen of the world (who isn’t?) – but I’m an American. I’m sad for the way we’ve lost our way, but I truly hope for better.
